Book Description:
"Хомус и мой Мир" (Khomus i moi Mir) is a methodological teaching book on how to play the Sakha khomus, authored by Saydyy Kuo Natalia Fedorova. Released in May 2011, the book showcases Saydyy Kuo's personal journey of self-learning and mastery of the khomus, a traditional musical instrument from Sakha-Yakutia.
The book, published by Alaas, aims to introduce the art of playing the khomus to people of all ages. It provides a comprehensive guide that covers various techniques and approaches to playing this unique instrument. Accompanying the book is a CD containing sample tracks, allowing readers to listen and learn from specific khomus playing techniques.
Saydyy Kuo's inspiration for learning the khomus came when she was just 12 years old. Living in Ytyk-Kyuel, Taatta, she would watch television programs featuring other khomusists and listen to albums by the ethno-group Ayarkhaan. Through her dedication and passion, she managed to teach herself how to play the khomus alone at home. Eventually, Saydyy Kuo became a member of the Ayarkhaan group, a testament to how dreams can come true.
"Хомус и мой Мир" is more than just an instructional guide; it is a testament to the power of determination, perseverance, and the beauty of Yakutian music. Through her personal experiences, Saydyy Kuo inspires readers to embrace their dreams and pursue their passions.
The book was presented at the Museum and Centre of Khomus Music in Yakutsk, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where Saydyy Kuo's expertise and dedication to the khomus are celebrated. It serves as a valuable resource for anyone interested in the Sakha khomus and the rich musical heritage of Yakutia.
